I don’t know why the contactless didn’t catch on the in US. I mean I had it in all of my cards 10 years ago. It was great, but they did away with it when I renewed my cards.

To be fair, cash can be stolen at gun point and doesn’t leave a paper trail when spent. Every payment method is going to have some sort of risk attached to it. The biggest issue with card skimmers is it’s not a very sophisticated attack and it’s not targeted, so it’s easy to pull off and victims are not aware until…

Because nobody was forcing them to - and why should they invest in upgrades when it’s consumers and the banks that pay all the costs when a card is skimmed at a pump?

The problem stems is profit margins on gas stations are virtually non-existent. Most of them make their money elsewhere, the gas stations are simply the lure to get people in. Add to the fact that fuel efficiency of cars have been going up and gas stations has been a dying business.

And there have been many instances of card skimmers installed on pumps, which cost the credit card companies millions of $.  

Gas stations have had years to implement chip readers. I’m sure Visa and Mastercard are tired of their bullshit excuses at this point.
