You are absolutely right, it felt totally natural to have a scene where Carol Marcus randomly strips down to her underwear and Kirk stares at her and the camera lingers on her just long enough for a trailer shot, and the scene wasn't out of place or jarring or incredibly awkward at all. Yes yes, good filmmaking,

Well, my eyes are opened. Having more than two women in a movie is "affirmative action" and turns the story into an "afternoon school special."

I reject the premise of your question. I want a film that reflects the world around me- people of different races and genders and sexual orientation and ability levels. A world that there is enough diversity that you can tell rich and varied stories.

Yeah, its not like Star Wars is completely made up or anything. We can't change the facts for a grand documentary like Star Wars!

Are you for real right now? Because, no.

JJ Abrams does not have the best record of properly treating the female perspective, so I have no clue why you have faith in this team.

any - create a character, its a freaking universe, if they can create a wookie, a gungan, a twi'lek, it can't be that hard to generate an original human character of asian descent - not a reticent nerd, not a desexualized loser, not a sex object for a white guy - man or woman, it can't be that hard

I'm not going to jump on your back the way others are, because sometimes the story requires an imbalance, but - and it's a big but - there better be some damn good reasons for any story to require a vast majority of men. And since this is Star Wars, and it's a galaxy far, far away, and there's been 20+ years of EU

I hope you write your own story, and I hope it becomes as popular and culturally important as Star Wars.

what about this still mostly white cast? Its a UNIVERSE. That's a pretty bland universe they've built. Why not Asians? East Asians and South Asians. Men and Women.

I'm sorry, what did you say?

I hear that, but I'd like to see both things happen. I want to see black characters play major roles in our cultural mythology. And I'd like to see more diverse stories emerging to compete with things like Star Wars.

I just about had a rage stroke during that scene. So unnecessary.

The fact that we see them at what looks like a table read for the new movie makes me think this is the core cast — there will be more minor characters, but these people are the stars of the film.

The world also isn't made up of 90% men, so why would we expect 90% of a movie cast to be made up of them?

Do we really want to trust JJ with female characters in this movie?

Saga, you say? This one has spaceships and magic too.

Apparently. Though of course they do have the alien "races" who get to act like racial stereotypes. Sigh.

The EU is no longer canon at all and will be disregarded by Disney in all Star Wars media going forward.

So because the Original Trilogy and the Prequels only had one major female character the Sequels should too? That's how we make progress folks - by doing exactly the same thing all of the previous films did.
