You are out of touch with reality.

The sister brand Kia is top of initial quality awards, they be fucking Porsche and Lexus. That joke is as old and tired.

they’re pretty reliable man

I put 150k miles on a 2006 Elantra, and the only problem I ever had was the radiator springing a leak. $50 to fix it. Seriously, that was it. I’m also not terribly gentle on any of my cars. Single-handedly the most reliable car I’ve ever owned.

I think the past twenty years have passed you by

Do some homework before writing next time.

Cool, you found one example of an Elantra having an issue. Good for you.

I drive a near 7 year old Hyundai and I abuse the shit out of it. Still like new.

It’s pretty obvious you don’t have current data.

Yes, on Consumer Reports list of most reliable brands, Hyundai is 10th and Kia is 3rd! :) Toyota is 1st and Lexus is second.

You’re apparently still stuck in last decade.

we have owned 3 and they have be excellent and super reliable

I live in perhaps the most average city in the US, and I see at most a couple of 5 series a day. They stick out.

If they really want it to blend in, it needs more dent. They should offer that as an upgrade — pre-dented for extra in-blendingness — a $975 option.

Can protect against 7.62mm, still can’t stop the Dent.

I think I’d be perfectly safe in Mexico; since my net worth is less than $2k, my ransom wouldn’t even pay for the gas.

There are plenty of places in the world where a 5 series would stick out like a sore thumb.

This is actually a good idea. When traveling in dangerous areas, it is better to go unnoticed. An ostentatious vehicle draws attention and lets everyone know that you are rich —you either have something worth stealing or you would be worth a lot of ransom.

What are your thoughts on professional athletes? Writers? Actors? TV talent?

These aren’t run of the mill engineers, these are individuals with PhDs that ran DARPA challenge teams before the tech really existed. Companies are basically investing in an entire platform. Nowadays any engineer looking to get into this field won’t be any where close to being worth that much.
