Absolutely not. On wii u especially, when entering the eshop at least some part of the interminable wait time is spent downloading, or loading a music track.

Why wouldn’t you just use the included AC adapter? Unplug it from the dock since you’re not using it?
$300 will buy you a copy of windows, a power supply (a pretty powerful one) and maybe a few case fans. You need to keep buying extra stuff for even a functional PC.
Pretty unsatisfying answer. You might ask someone else in addition?
“pre-release versions of the game”
A brawler set in 80's Japan made by Sega? I guess I’ll try it while Shenmue is on a 17 year hiatus!
It’s really irresponsible to tell your readers that if they lose their nintendo system they’ll lose all their digital games. A 5 minute call to customer service will restore your purchases (even from 10+ year old wii or dsi accounts), which is easier than going through the same process on the PS4. Last time I tried…
A “half-hearted” way to increase storage? What does that mean?
Surely it’s worth noting that Wii U to Switch is a entirely different platform - completely new chipset and codebase. Ipod 1 to 2 (or 3 ore 4) is carrying forward the same platform. And no, it’s not truly the same controls or graphics - F-Zero and Waverace are good examples - F-Zero was patched with control tweaks…
I don’t get this at all. It’s like saying “Don’t buy that record. It won’t play on your CD player!”. Wii U is one platform, switch will be another platform. Your copy of Pikmin 3 won’t play on it, and you might have spent $60 on that.
By that metric won’t the Switch fail in exactly the same way? The screen is a mandatory part of the package again and won’t allow for a $100 drop either.
There was always going to be a new console - if not after 4.5 years, then when? And certainly there’s things to improve on with the Wii U unrelated to branding - I’m personally looking forward to having a simplified setup with less power adapters and hard drives and dongles and sensor bars, more flexibile local…
Wii remote plus had IR camera, haptics, NFC?
too real for me
“None of the games really hold any replay value”
That’s true, but after a decade of waiting for a new star fox, it has to feel just a little disappointing. The same game just with a good multiplayer mode would have redeemed it.
Better advice, I think, would be to just not watch the trailers. Your problem seems confined to the very small club of games journalists covering a certain type of game. I didn’t even know most of this content was out there and I’m on Kotaku every day and even had a ticket to the unveiled event (decided not to go…

Now what’s the Wii virtual console number?
Natively, with other OS features running? Probably not. The same reason we never got Gameboy Advance games on the 3DS.
