Isn’t the science wrong on this? Supposedly you wouldn’t age (or at least not at the same rate as you would on Earth) if you were traveling this sort of a distance in space. So, yes, he’d be alone for a huge amount of time, but he wouldn’t age a drastic amount, and therefore wouldn’t die.
