I can’t believe that anyone is surprised by this, even a little. Isn’t this what these places are FOR? Buy your useless ass kid four years of getting matey with every other rich fucks useless spawn so they can all go on to run the damn world further into the ground and congratulate themselves on their totally

I am just so infuriated by this.  These people could send their kids to the best schools, get tutors, afford to let them play any sport they wanted, pay for private coaches, give them “life experiences” of traveling to other countries, etc. and their kids still couldn’t make it in? Fuck them.  Their kid could go to

I’ve been doing a RHOOC watch from the beginning (that and NJ were the two big ones I never watched) and hoo-boy I’m thinking about how entitled the kids are on that show... especially when I read about how some of these kids were all ‘I don’t know if I want to go to college, it doesn’t sound fun’ after their parents

I did too. But after seeing some more details, it seems like a few parents attempted to do all this behind their children’s backs:

Oh, these kids definitely knew. They just believe that they are entitled to special treatment. I guess my question is I know Harvard and Standford are tough schools to get into, even with perfect grades. But USC? With rich, supportive parents who can afford to provide you with a stable home and tutors all your life

Did the article say whether the daughter attended a private high school? I teach special ed in a public HS, with a side-gig proctoring the ACT and SAT. Obtaining an IEP and SpEd testing accommodations is a complicated process. Many of the gen-ed kids on Saturday mornings have a very hard time finishing within the time

I share both of your astonishment at this...but this is the life they live. Why would they ever question it?

Legacies are the biggest ‘affirmative action’ program there is, according to a political science prof I had about 10 years ago. And no, he’s not a Marxist or anything like that.

My wife works in college admissions counseling and you would be shocked to hear about the lack of self-awareness these kids have.

Bwahahaha. 62% of grades at Yale are A’s and A-’s. You probably mean competitive admissions (and of course they’re more competitive, what with the women and POC expecting to be considered). But do not for one hot second misspeak about rigor once enrolled at almost any Ivy. Grade inflation is the reward for the

They might just be used to things being this way. Kind of like Jon Hamm’s character on 30 Rock, if things have always been handed to you, you might not realize it’s not normal. (And these kids might also just be dumb as shit.)

There are no bootstraps on penny loafers.

The “fake athlete” part was less believable. One of the accused bought his son water polo gear and then took pics of him in the pool to Photoshop into game action.

Yeah the crew thing is especially weird to me. When I got accepted to college I applied to a specific undergraduate program and my acceptance materials mentioned that program. I also received a lot of additional communications from that program about expectations, events, networking opportunities, and what not.

Rich assholes overestimating their brains/achievements is something I have no problems believing, unfortunately.

If you have a few spare minutes, go read the indictment. It’s bananas. The first order of business was getting the kids extra testing time by having them allege learning disabilities. The guy running the whole scam told one parent to have his daughter “play dumb” when going to the psychologist to try and get medical

And that’s the most depressing shit of it all. The advantages given to these children is fucking astronomical compared to normal kids.

One of my supervisors at Cambridge also taught at Harvard, and had previously taught at Yale. She said she much preferred Cambridge because they don’t have legacy admissions so everyone was at least reasonably smart (though rich kids do of course still have an advantage, and I’m sure there are still some ‘unofficial’

Legacies at my alma mater got shit when they were dumb as rocks (hi Jared) but none of the pervasive stigma. Any students of color were automatically assumed to have been admitted under lower standards.

I’m shocked. You mean rich, white kids don’t earn their spots into Ivy League schools? I thought they were supposed to be filled with the best and brightest who pulled themselves up by their boot straps. Those schools aren’t bastions of meritocracy? Lol I love how people complain about affirmative action but don’t say
