Are you suggesting 100K would be overpriced, or just pointing out that high performance RWD mid-engined sports cars are expensive?

What I mean is that there should be a role-reversal: if safety is the goal, then the human should be the one driving, with the AI watching, always alert, and ready to take over in an emergency.

Not one of these clearly says that the system won’t self-drive.

People pretty consistently underestimate the pace of technological development. Things not only get better, they get better (and cheaper) at a faster and faster rate.  Despite the amazing advances we’ve seen in the past 40 years, it is always difficult to imagine what we will achieve in the next 40.

I think it comes down to the database

• The levels of autonomy refer to the car driving itself, so of course humans aren’t L5. Those levels do not apply to human drivers.

I expect we’ll have level 4 for the long empty stretches of interstate between cities in 20 years or less. That’s far easier to manage than an urban center.
