I think it's pretty ambiguous whether or not Catherine survived the finale. Unless I remember it wrong, that entire plotline ended with a bang.

This movie is fantastic. Hardly a B-. Hopper isn't the best onscreen Ripley, but he's the perfect Ripley for this film. And the Knieper's soundtrack is chilling, almost as chilling as his later River's Edge soundtrack. Had no idea Criterion was getting their hands on this one, can't wait to check it out.
