It's why I really enjoy the Arrow and Grimm reviews here. Alisdair and Les understand and like the shows for what they are, but hold them accountable for what does and doesn't work on those terms. Hell, I love Grimm but honestly sometimes Les is gentler towards the show than I feel.
I really enjoy both shows, but I think this is dead on.
Gotta say, when I hear the words "Mary Sue," I personally reach for my combination-axe-shotgun. I find discussions of "fridging" and "Mary Sues" together hilarious, because I think the "Mary Sue" is one of the most reactive, anti-feminist concepts in pop-culture commentary history.

I think he was flashing less on Adalind and more on the spell that gave him his Grimm powers at the cost of Juliette's humanity.
