I was literally berated once by a lady who thought I was being rude when I didn't strike up a conversation with her. She yelled at me in front of everyone in the office. Then my manager didn't do anything. Those people sucked and I'm glad I'm not there any more.

I worked in an office where they frequently chatted 10, 20, 30 minutes a time about how over worked and stressed they were. On top of that, they thought it was rude of me to not stop and chat!

The possible problems include jealousy (you're spending way more time with the new kid), the ability for the older kid to get into trouble while you're paying attention to the younger one, and then the younger one will never know life as a single child, so they will ALWAYS be in big brother's hair to entertain them.
