The display is not what’s heating up. It’s the sensor inside the camera. The longer it’s running, the more heat gets generate and the more noise appears in the exposure from that heat.

I’d be interested to see how that compares to Nikon’s long exposure noise reduction feature. Down side of the LENR is that is doubles the time it takes to make an exposure, but seems to clean up the long exposure noise really well.
