Thanks for saying that. It kinda bugged me when commenters were touchy about book spoilers.

Just remember that more than half of us didn't actually vote for the current guy.

This is why I was so frustrated when Colorado had a Medicare for all bill on the ballot last fall that got shot down by 80% of the voters. I don't get how people don't see that a single payer system is better than insurance premiums, deductibles, out of pocket expenses.

She wouldn't have been fertile anymore after being at Jezebels though.

I think if they refused to go along they ended up on the wall.

The whole concept of doctors in this world is contradictory. Modern medicine is set aside in some situations but not others. Most doctors ended up on the wall. Women give birth at home without medical assistance but they go to a GYN every month to make sure they are fertile.

It's not really about the baby though. It's about her having a validation and symbol of her righteousness and virtue. In this society Offred isn't a person but an extension of the wife. If Offred gets pregnant it's because of the wife's worthiness. So she needs the pregnancy because she's lost everything and her faith

Without hitting any checkpoints though? They make it seem like there are checkpoints at every major intersection. They would've been looking for her after findingthe guy she killed also.

That makes sense. LIke a finishing school. No education, just training for how you are supposed to be as you grow up. In the novel, daughters always wear white dresses and Hannah was supposedly adopted.

That's exactly what I thought and said below. Study your surroundings, pick out anything that looks like a landmark that you can build on for later. That's how you get your daughter back. And yes on the Janine thing, people can move around when it fits the story. LIke Moira getting to Canada. That's a long trek

I'm just finishing listening to the book narrated by Claire Danes, who can do with her voice what Elizabeth Moss does with her face and I'm very torn on what I would want to see from another season. I love dystopian, post apocalyptic stories, but giving us more of this world makes the introspection that happens from

We saw June get to the breaking point, but you're right that it's unrealistic to think all the handmaids would also refuse to go along. I think they are supposed to be more afraid. LIke another commenter mentioned, it's not supposed to be the men with machine guns keeping everyone in line but the fear within oneself.

I willing to suspend the thought that current actual refugee laws would apply to what is happening on this tv show.

I agree. That would fall more in line with the book. June's story ended when she stepped into the van. Letting us see her future messes with the mystery and ambiguity of the book. I'm okay with the story being added to by creating new histories for the other characters but not for June.

Aren't Canadian drugs a lot cheaper too? We wouldn't need coverage if a month's supply of epilepsy medication didn't cost $300.

I think the coup was after Hannah was born. I know we don't see her in the episode that June loses her job but doesn't Luke come out of the room and say something about reading a story? The Gilead government still seems to be establishing its new systems in the beginning of this episode (no haidmaids, they are still

I said this above as well but this is the gaping hole in the story for me because Emily/Ofglen # 1 tells June that she was married to a woman and they have a 5 year old son. So I infer that only 5-6 years previous to current events fertility treatments were still available and still somewhat successful. Emily was

You bring up a point that has been bothering me. Ofglen #1/Emily tells June that she was married to a woman and they had a son who is five at that point in the story. From that I infer that they used fertility treatments to get Emily pregnant which is why she is the one tagged to be a handmaid. It just feels like a

I think his comment about "You're an amazing woman. I forgot." Indicated that it was after the trade delegation banquet.

Beverly was pretty much the same. In the books you see how the townspeople experienced a new resident coming into the picture. They were always disoriented and scared, acted crazy, tried to run. Sometimes the integration went so badly the person would be put back into suspension, which would revert their memories
