How long does the law require them to keep doing this recall? You can just keep driving on the original engine until then, with the risk that you could be stranded somewhere due to engine failure.

As long as they keep a base model attainable I feel like they can grow the top end as much as they want.  If anything the Z06 and ZR1 help keep Corvette as a whole more affordable.
