I still don’t think anyone should feel they have to reveal their status in such a public manner unless they want to, not because they have to combat stigma.

We are reading it very differently. We are also reading LGBT history differently if you think that “sit quietly and hope for the best” is something other than hiding. And the desire to hide is understandable when people are, in fact, out to get you.

It’s called privacy.

Your response seems to buy into a lot of stigmatization. It sucks that he would ever feel the need to hide his status, any more than someone should be ashamed to reveal they have diabetes. Well, yeah, NOW they need to assume as much. 30 years ago no one considered it was possible to go hunting down your donors with genetic testing. Talk about unforeseen consequences for the donor.

You don’t have to, you brother, mother, sister, 1st cousin or uncle can, and then narrow it down to you.

Because when the kid turns 18, they are able to use these services without asking mom. The agreement is with the mother, not the child, even though this decision affects them. And what about the child’s children? It’s unrealistic to expect the agreement to stand across generations.
