"I understand there isn't a drop of sake to be found within 20 miles."

My first handle came from IRC when I was a wee lad. At the time, I had just gotten a cat, and people had a tendency to call me Johnny for some reason... so, JohnnyCat was born. Spelled differently than the cat litter, mind you... but that didn't matter. I stuck with it through IRC and it actually made it's way on

Just think about this. To accomplish this feat, they would have had to hook up a car to a rather large helicopter, and drop it on top of the tallest building in los angeles during the day. Then they would have had to fly camera helicopters all around it while filming. How come nobody saw that? Because it didn't

As I was going through the videos, I kept thinking... where the hell is the yellowbird? Please tell me they didn't forget that one.... Oh, it's #1. Of course.

The massive drift in the caterham at 3:50... oh, to be watching that from the Porsche.

I saw this exact thing happen from the same perspective a while back. I was with my family, coming down I-80 from Lake Tahoe in CA. There was a 70's Ford F-150 up ahead of us with a two horse trailer. As the hill started to get steeper, the driver of the truck started to brake- but there were no brakes on the

A few months back, I talked to a guy who was an EOD tech in the marines. Those are the guys who have to deal with the IED's when they find them. He talked about using the jammers then, but he said that the guys just switched to using 1000m of fishing line instead of cell phones, with a trigger made out of a

One caveat that Google doesn't mention: You have to have "rich formatting" enabled for this to work. Nothing happens if you do not have rich formatting turned on by default and you try to paste into the message body.

"25mph breeze" is a bit of an oxymoron... 25mph is a stiff, stiff wind. I'd think doing this in anything higher than 5-10mph winds would be a REALLY bad idea.

From what I can find, the new proposed apple building is 3.1 million sq. ft. (DAMN!) but according to wikipedia the pentagon is 6.5 million sq ft (DAMN DAMN!) making it the world's largest office building.

The fact that it's almost as big as the pentagon is pretty staggering. Of course, the pentagon has more square footage, since it's not as "empty" in the middle- but the scale of it is still pretty immense.

My guess: Since the panama canal allowed farmers on the west coast of the U.S. to cheaply get their crops to shipping lanes, and the midwestern farmers would have to move their crops overland at much higher prices- they got taken out of the market, until canals in the mississipi allowed them to compete again.

When I was in jr. high, one of my friends lived in a house with a fallout shelter. It was built by his grandfather, and even at that point (the late 80's) it was still fairly well stocked. The area inside was maybe 6' x 10', as well as a bit of storage in the crawlspace underneath the house. There was an air blower

Try sending them an email, they're pretty responsive... I think that is their flat-rate shipping but they might drop it down for you. I don't end up having a problem with the shipping because I always find myself ordering a ton of stuff at a time!

I think the title is a little disingenuous- the DRM was always there, it's not being "brought back". I can understand why they did this- they negotiated with the content providers at that time that the music would be delivered with DRM, and without re-negotiating the contract, they have to keep operating under the

If you want just the cool braided keyring... this company called CountyComm sells em, and they're only a couple bucks a piece. Their site is also full of the kind of stuff MacGyver would have in his jeep.

Ok, that was NOT an electrocution. I have similar lights to those that I bought at ikea hanging above my desk, and I'll routinely grab the wires to reposition the lights- while they're on. Maybe if you had wet hands you could feel a little sting from it, but they are low voltage (12v) and low wattage (25W or so).

This seems like the absolute most passive-aggressive way to go about issues like this. Alternative to all this trickery about airplane mode and timers:

That mountain does some funny things to people. Leaving a 3-year-old, a 2-year-old and a pregnant wife at home to go climb it, I can't really understand.

Oh, I'm tryin. I saw it on public access TV the other night and put it on youtube as soon as I could. The internet, it's a fickle beast.
