Having seen both Blade Runner 2049, which was “good,” and Alien: Covenant, which was very much “not good,” I’m comfortable with the way things worked out. Scott has some very high highs, it’s true, but his full body of work is decidedly spotty, especially in recent years.

It wasn’t always quite so crazy (Obama won it twice, after all), and its extreme tilt toward Trumpism and whatever DeSantis is in the last decade is strange.  Personally, though, I think it’s a reflection of the wave of Baby Boomer retirements finally starting to build and hopefully crest, and the Trumpiest of them
