I’m not trying to disrupt discussion, I’m trying to discuss the incident. Do people on this forum prefer to only hear their own opinion repeated back to them? If you read my post then you know my point was not that the arrest was ok, but that the two guys almost seemed to want to escalate the situation; they literally

But I just feel like you’re assuming out the gate that they’re victims, before getting all the facts. The internet these days is full of fake “stories” - that’s why it’s important to find out what really went down!!

Ok; if that’s not what happened I do apologize. I just think the details matter. That’s all I’m saying.

psh people mock the beliebers way more than the beyhive, imo

Do we know all the details? I heard the issue started because they asked to use the bathroom key and the staff asked them to buy something, and the refused, and that’s when things escalated.

I’m just saying that I have been asked to order in a Starbucks (and I did, obviously).

I mean obviously they won the bluff. Starbucks isn’t pressing charges, they’re off, they have a celebrity pro bono attorney already, and possibly their 15 minutes next!

look, I understand that a black dude’s experience is different from mine. But we’re talking about this specific case, not the black experience in the abstract. And the thing is you just seem completely uninterested in the actual facts of the incident.

right but I don’t think that’s even what happened. They were there waiting for the friend, and then went up to ask to use the bathroom - and it was at that point that the staff asked if they had bought something...

Agh I’m sorry if this hasn’t been a productive conversation. I’m just sharing my opinion and experience on an open internet forum. AndI agree the arrest is totally over the top!!

No I would never be uptight like this manager. But if some manager were asking if I had ordered and I hadn’t (this has happened to me) I’d just order a damn drink, that’s all I’m saying.

then stop posting about me, lady

lol so bizarre - me saying I lived in New York was qualifying my statement - because this happened in Philly! get a clue

Well to be fair apparently the reason it came up is because they asked to use the bathroom, and that was when the staff asked if they had purchased anything...

Like if they were waiting for their friend why didn’t they just order anyways? Refusing to order something just seems strange

I have read a few articles! They did speak to the men, who refused to leave. You shouldn’t falsify details. I agree the arrest is going too far, but I don’t see asking them to leave if they hadn’t purchased anything as outrageous...

True, about waiting for the friend.

Hm I’m not sure about that; I’ve seen signs specifically noting that seating space is for patrons only. I live in New York, though. Yes it would make a difference to know the store policy.

Starbucks has a policy that anyone can loiter as long as they want?

But why didn’t they just order something, when asked to either order or leave? Isn’t that how things work in most cafés and restaurants? Seems like a reasonable request. I don’t understand the outrage.
