The combination of bright and dark, joy and trauma on this show is just lovely.

She's killing it on the bleak roles on nuanced comedies. I love it.

if it's a rom-com then who is kimmy supposed to end up with? The abuser isn't supposed to be sexy just because he's played a sexy character before. I don't see how this is a romantic comedy at all: and it's not "in the mix." The trauma is the heart of the show.

I guess I kind of see it all rolled into one: the effect is a gag, but the source is treated seriously.

It's cheesy but the brightness and bigness is where the heart is; it comes from Kimmy's sincerity and earnestness, which convey her strength even after her trauma. Also, casting Jon Hamm doesn't make it sexy or a rom-com. He's her abuser. Many real victims have found the show healing .It's smart casting because he's

Do you find him endearing? Yes, sometimes amusing but I thought S1 highlighted how scarily easiy people will follow a handsome, charming, funny, white man.

I don't know, doesn't she address them in therapy? or am i misremembering?

Except he's charming and comes off as scarily capable in the courtroom.

I did too.

Yeah, I thought this was well-conveyed at the trial when he's cleaned up.

Yes, exactly my thought! At the end of Season 1, it shows the power of a charming, handsome, white, male abuser.

I almost said aloud, "Can she SEE the nonexistent dog?!"

I love when he took "Straight Lessons" with the SPORTS jersey!

Also, Jon Hamm was Ellie Kemper's 8th grade drama teacher so that's fun too.

Great review of a great episode. Hearing "rape" was so powerful. I also thought Wendy's character conveyed how not only teen girls are victims of abuse, but smart, capable, well-off, seemingly confident women are, too.

I liked this one better than the premiere, which was good but felt more like joke-after-joke and was missing a tad bit of the pathos I love about the show that was in this episode. And that conversation between Daveed Diggs and Ellie Kemper - I adore both of them and what they're associated with so much - I was full

I also like it, because Kimmy's mind is still in the 90s but Titus apparently is too.

SAME! Add in that he wasn't even Matilda, but a non-speaking child. Loved it.

You're right, but we even get so much life from the folks in New York, I Love You and we only see them for 10 minutes!

Empath, yes, and compassion.
