Yeah, my thoughts were that if they did get together, it wouldn't go really well because it wouldn't be based on anything substantial.

I've got about 10 minutes left of the finale and I felt a lot more reality, agency and layers from Rachel. I agree that Francesca's better than Garden State but "loves art history/gave up life for her mother/in unhappy engagement" still feel like fairly flimsy character traits that could depict a MPDG.

Yeah, I have 10 minutes left of the last episode and I have quite mixed feelings about the subplot. There are some things I like about it and some things that feel…tired. I don't think people are making him out to be a bad guy, but in this situation he is just so inappropriate compared to the likability we've seen

What he's doing is still not ok. I don't think he's a Bad Person, and I like that he feels bad, but it just puts him a few grades down…

THIS COMMENT IS GOLD.

with a sick mama/tragic backstory AND she baked.

I thought Pino seemed the most blameless out of the three! Was NOT rooting for Dev.

his conflict is literally zac efron's in high school musical.

Seconded! And another show that discusses religion carefully and realistically.

Yes, something about the delicateness of the subject of religion made this episode more powerful because it was so warm, graceful and non-divisive (in my eyes). I also liked how much Dev's mom tied the religion to her culture and heritage: as a progressive but (somewhat) observant Jew, that really resonated with me.

I felt like it was in Dev's character *not* to have that context. Why would he know that?

they are fearlessly affectionate: we need more men on tv like that.

I read that he auditioned actors and couldn't really find anyone who gelled.

There's heart and empathy. Sure, the conflict isn't in life-or-death stakes but it's well-crafted and kind and introspective.

It's funny, I find his friends all delightful. I'm not disagreeing with you 100% - it may be stilted but it works for me on this show,

That's such a great point about those other movies/books! How lovely.

Missed that too! The way this show weaves in modern technology is really astute and feels more real than most.

I actually read that more as Dev's insecurity than Anzari's own opinion.

Great NBC comedies have awful commercials: felt the same way about ads for Parks & Rec and Community.

I'm realizing the commercials for my favorite shows are all awful: Community, Parks & Rec, etc.
