Agreed. A big part of the story is the question on which one is real and which is not. Having cuts to real people probably would've established that the story with the people is the "real" one and would not only take away that question, but it would take away the beauty and wonder of the first story.

That's a cool interpretation.

In the book, even the insurancemen ask this question to each other. I guess it's something that you're supposed to interpret for yourself.

The way I see it, the tiger story had aspects that made you both doubt and believe it. The animals on the deck of the boat, yeah, that is questionable. In the book, Pi says that the drunk crewmen may have let them out but that's debatable. At the same time, other aspects of the story make you believe it wasn't true.

I know a lot of people were bothered by the twist, but I wasn't. I guess because the book/movie lets you decide, it doesn't directly say "It was all made up!" or anything like that. And maybe it's just my interpretation, buuuut the book makes a lot of effort to get you to choose the tiger story…

Anyone else notice that Billie Holiday's "Strange Fruit" played for a few seconds on a gramophone while everyone dances before the scene changes? I thought that was pretty funny, it only plays the first few lines, but anyone who is familiar with the song knows that it's not something you play at a party or dance too,
