Reposting this because everyone just uses the stereotype that the reason Xbox fails in Japan was because japanese are nationalist about consumer goods rather than doing research and analysis:

It’s not just a Square/Enix issue. This was a gaming industry problem in general. Stuff just wasn’t carefully preserved, due to money, not being part of the culture, and lack of foresight. Hell, my buddy reminded me of a Mass Effect DLC that I guess isn’t included on the latest re-release because they lost the code!

Nothing hurts me more than Square losing the original, high-res backgrounds for Final Fantasy IX - there's a handful people have managed to find and they are GORGEOUS, and it kills me we'll be stuck with the PS1-compressed ones forever more. (The AI upscale mod looks nice, but I feel like AI trying to reconstruct

It’s just proof of how incompetent they were and/or how little foresight they had when it came to cashing in on relatively easy ports.

This is impressive. I don’t know if some people truly understand how long the TokiMemo community has waited for this.

Heck, I remember my mom complaining that Chrono Trigger cost more than feeding the entire family for 2 months.

yeah, games are technically cheaper than they used to be. Heck, I remember my mom complaining that Chrono Trigger cost more than feeding the entire family for 2 months.

Now everyone can experience what it’s like living on Earth for 24 episodes while Goku is busy training

Hocus Pocus kind of only really works if you’re familiar with ‘90s culture and how it relates to ‘80s culture. There was the whole Wicca/witchcraft revival thing around that time, people had become aware of the “final girl” trope and were flipping it on it’s head (the whole deal with Max in that movie), children’s

My wife loves that movie and introduced our kids to it this year, they watched it several times the past couple months and I can’t stand it.

Hackers. Absolute trash movie that I will watch every time it’s on just because it was such a great watch on SciFi (pre-SyFy badging ;)) Channel whenever it was on. It’s in the place where I put that thing that time...

Wish the video would show what the hell these people are hitting, since it’s conveniently hidden behind the damn bush. Or even the article, that would’ve been helpful.

I think he also did motion capture for the character so it’s not quite as “simple” (so to speak) as voice acting. That being said, yeah, I’m sure there were a number of departments at Santa Monica that were really helped out by the delay.

Now playing

I hate those kinds of thumbnails, too. But they’re so prolific for a reason:

This was the first I’d ever heard of Austin Evans, and my takeaway is that he’s full of shit. Fair or not, there it is.

My guess is that the story beats is to justify the actions of Imperial Japan during the Meiji Era. Japan did many many war crimes during world war 2 that were worse than Nazi Germany but never apologize for their actions and do this day play the role of the victim and sweeps what they did under the rug.

The SMT label is applied pretty inconsistently for spinoffs even in Japan. The games are undoubtedly spinoffs of the Megami Tensei series, but they haven’t all carried the title.

Yes. All 2D objects on the PlayStation are created from polygons with textures.
