I haven’t looked it up but even after 6 to 8 years I think there had been a lot turnover on L&O. The two detectives, the ADA and his asst. IIRC the only ones left were Steven Hill and Dann Florek.

I would add another suggestion. Once you’ve found the towel you like in the color you want buy a lot more of them. Towel manufacturers change colors like the year changes seasons.

It’s very unique for television to have high turnover like this.
