It’s illegal here to leave the scene if you’ve hit a deer, owl, otter and so on. Have to call the police and wait for them to arrive. Leaving is a good way to loose your license on top of fines. Even more so if the animal is alive and have run off, still need to stop and mark the spot and wait for the police to arrive.
