The contrasting roof pillars are actually a really interesting way to reduce the visual mass of the car — but I’m sure many people will rage about the black panel below (Aston, please make sure it’s not plastic).

“When Mercedes sold Chrysler, they left them a warehouse of ML chassis, so Chrysler bolted Jeep bodies to them and that’s why the Grand Cherokee is a Merc”
But does it come in Brown?
The C-pillar and rear window has far too much black plastic that absolutely does not blend in with the windows.
The Comanche had a Unibody cab with integrated frame rails extending backwards. I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the solution that Honda used here, too.
The shot at 0:47 is literally right next to my office, recognized the spot instantly.
What about a Mercedes C-class? The tail lights and side trim match perfectly.
The aero concept was years ahead of its time, though. They called the bluff-fender trend fifteen years before it became popular.
The side pods are just lower than anything else in recent memory. When we see other angles & analysis, I'd be interested in how they kept that legal.
It actually made sense to ship them with fluids — it would have been much more time consuming and expensive to load them if they couldn’t be driven on.
The Vega had to be designed with special features for the Vert-A-Pac, like inclined fluid reservoirs, a dipstick at the back of the engine bay, and a special fuel-filler line. Designing all these special features for the first week of the car’s life was deemed inefficient.
I agree. If you’re interested, Command and Control by Eric Schlosser is a great read about Nuclear safety and what's actually scary.
Theoretically, if you were in uncontrolled airspace outside of the 12nm limit and any ADIZ you could go as fast as you wanted.
It’s even worse when you look at what it replaced, which was one of the prettiest four-seat cars ever.
Dear Doug,
... you have an i8? How does it compare to the i3 in terms of driving engagement or refinement?
The gas tank is somewhere around 3 gallons. In Europe, the system software allows you to use almost all of that capacity. In the US, the software is set up so the REX shuts off with more than a flew sloshes remaining. Because reasons. (Hint: you can thank our litigious culture)
Not to burst your bubble, but we have this van, twice over.
You’re forgetting the cinematography. The Ski chase (ridiculous cutaways to Telly Savalas pretending to ski aside) isn’t just gorgeous, it was revolutionary - one of the first scenes ever shot from a helicopter.
This definitely isn’t for crash testing - the headlights are plexiglass with screws in them. You can’t use non-production parts in NCAP testing. I’d bet this is a pvt mule.
