The lack of smoking on airplanes is something I would be more than happy to pay a premium for if necessary. Airplanes prior to the smoking ban were *disgusting*. Luckily I started flying for a living just after that happened, but I flew on plenty of smoking flights for vacations before that. YUCK!

I also feel that was the tipping point where flying became unpleasant. It turned passenger against passenger to cram everything into overhead bins. You can’t opt-out of the chaos by paying to check your own bags because it still takes an extra half hour to board and another to exit.  It’s actually worse than having

Oddly enough, as a regular person with a regular job, I pay quite a bit of my income in taxes, percentage-wise. Somewhere to the tune of nearly 30%, between federal and state (not including sales, etc.).
