To be fair, it was forshadowed in the very first episode when the adult "Books" was rapping about his friend Shao. That and the lines never felt like he was addressing Shao as though he were still alive, so he probably ends up dead as well.

Alternate episode title: Steven Universe: Initial D.
I'd watch that spinoff, no doubt. Also, as an episode largely unrelated to the overall plot, it was a great final number for the show to have.
That was for the sake of Hope, she said as much. Killing Kilgrave would have condemned Hope to prison and she promised her that she'd get her out.
"And it did not feel necessary for Jessica to maintain any charade, felt like she could have killed him at any point."
Desperation? A need to protect her sister? Trish has been shown multiple times throughout the show to want be able to do the thing Jessica can. She wants to be a hero and at least save her sister if she can't be that.
I assume he got some when he went to the hospital pretending to be concerned.
