Perhaps the writers were self-conscious about their new found freedom to use expletives but it was smart to ramp up the language with each episode. It started with a "shit" then a "fuck" by Holder in the background and it became progressively part of the lexicon until kids and adults alike were shouting "motherfucker"…

I've never been into the cosmic comics (I just can't get into the whole 'gods in space' mythology) so I'm less familiar with Jim Starlin's work in that area but I do vividly remember enjoying his Breed series from the mid-Nineties. That said, I do like the idea of a giant figure who eats planets for breakfast.
