I too bought a 95 Miata without knowing how to drive it. Funny how determination and necessity work! Especially when it's a fantastic car!

I understand the argument for the wear on the clutch from the drag from the flags, but don't know if the flag-mount argument holds water. I believe there is an Act - not sure of the name - which requires the manufacturer to show that the modification impacted operation or condition in a manner relevant to the failure.

I miss when companies made cheap, rugged, fun cars that had zero pretension and would do anything you wanted, no matter how objectively stupid. Cars where a terrible idea could be hidden from anyone else finding out by 5 minutes with a hose. Cars that would look wildly out of place in a funeral procession, and yet…

The most unusual manual-equipped car you can buy new today is a Mazda 5. As far as I know, it is the only minivan equipped with a manual in the U.S. domestic market. Also, you can find them for about $2,000 under MSRP because manual minivan. Do want.
