Turkey has been engaged in an ongoing airspace territorial dispute with Greece for years now, on a daily basis. Dog fights between the two NATO members are not uncommon sometimes with armed fighters. Turkey is well aware of how to practice restraint but intentionally chose not to what ends i do not know.
