No doubt a lot of holdover lore from Black Panther's creation (by 2 white men) might be rooted in ignorance and exotification.

I was so excited for Kubo and it fell flat for me too. It felt like a checklist adventure where everything on the list just fell into the characters' laps.
And I agree with Ignatiy that it did not do the thematic legwork…what was the lesson? Memory is important but if someone loses their memory lie to them so they act…
