That slab would have cost a crap ton of money. Pretty, though.

@DannyBR: Nova Scotia. Canadian telecom competition isn't exactly "fierce", even in the big cities (which I'm still about 1200km from), so we tend to get fleeced a bit on cell phones. It's around ~$65 + 15% tax a month for basic smartphone plan (at least).

@DannyBR: Firmly agree. I was looking for an Android based way to do this today and found this:

Seems that his theory is if you aren't doing your dream job already, no matter how mundane, don't fret!

Apparently I am lo-fi. Regardez my skinny jeans and wayfarers, people.

"Water...You can never go wrong drinking lots of it", unless of course it kills you because you are also on E and your electrolytes get all crazy. Just sayin' [en.wikipedia.org]

@binaryspiral: Indeed, a test environment fail. RE: corp users, ForeFront is the corporate version of MSE - containing group admin policies and such. My work ditched McAfee last year for ForeFront and it's been smooth sailing. Oh. Did I just jinx that?

@NotMandatory: Amen to that. As a Brit living in Canada I try to evangelise about not using a dryer.

Makes sense to me. I get my personal hate-on for Skype's IE plugin and pseudo-optional toolbar installers (all in the top 10). Phenomenally awful. Anyone have knowledge of the MS QA process? They state "...there is a review process..." when you upload, but can it really be any good?

@stevenrosstempleton: What you said. MCEBuddy is way easier to setup than dvrmstoolbox and "just works". I like easy.

@Prismatist: Heads_Explode is right - our ScotiaBank mortgage interest is calculated monthly, but at a rate that gives the bank it's expected effective yield. This link explains pretty well: [www.canadamortgage.com]

@aphexbr: Agreed - I think windows update does service updates for MS Office products (maybe Visio as well?) as well, but that might be it.

VOTE: Windows Update, scheduled overnight. Am I going to get shouted at for saying that?

Tablets don't really excite me for portability (netbook/laptop would seem more robust), but what about a wall tablet for kitchen use? How about a cheap DIY version?

@dreniam: USB programmable cash register? Awesome! Thanks for the links!

Yo peeps. Anyone out there own a small (i.e. one shop) retail business? Care to share recommendations for simple, reliable POS/retail/inventory software? Seems lots of crazy expensive COTS ([www.microsoft.com]) is available, but that's not really the lifehacker way is it?

I quite like Tuner Free MCE - good for UK or US folks. Streams BBC iPlayer stuff (Radio only for non-Brits), and I think does Boxee/Hulu for US: [www.milliesoft.co.uk]

@Johnjoe0110: Nope, although there is a workaround. Use WTV Watcher [wtvwatcher.codeplex.com] to convert those pesky WTV files back to DVR-MS. Then the previous (stable/working) version of MCEBuddy/LifeExtender will still work.
