Nah. I’m 32 and never shared a last name with my mum. We still know who we are. Never encountered any problems at school or anything else so far as I know. It is a complete non-issue.
I’m Aussie but our culture is pretty similar to the US. I’m 32 years old, engaged, and not even considering changing my last name upon marriage.
