like that scene in no country where tommy lee jones' character goes to the record store and asks where the merle haggard is and the clerk says "sorry we have a strict no country for old men policy"

doesn't his jacket have 'for your health' on it or something?

Right. I'm totally with you on the Golden Rice thing. Even if there might be technical problems with the bioavailability of the beta carotene, it is astounding to me that it is being given away as a gift by people affiliated with public institutions, and there is so much resistance that we can't even get it

That's a fair point. By the way, I have a friend I value and care about who works at Monsanto. I understand that some if not most (edit: if not all) of the scientists working there have the best intentions: they just want to bring a technology they see as promising to the world.

i guess nobody is even on these comments anymore, oops.

The discussion on GMOs in these comments, like the discussion on GMOs in the circles I run in (radical leftist agro-ecology/urban-ag types on the one hand, academic plant geneticists on the other) suggests to me that more facts aren't going to foster actual communication on the subject. I see deeply held value systems

To support your argument, Unk, I'd like to point out the story about Papaya Ringspot Virus resistance, since it's something I don't often see mentioned in the GMO debate: https://en.wikipedia.org/wi…
