@MyPetFly: I do something similar, but easier. I just make the curves layer set to luminosity. Do it before the adjustments and you can get a nice preview. I hate the way curves can muck up colors.

also, they have to wait to see what the other guys are doing before they can start.

The article looks slashdotted, so it's hard to tell what their research entailed. Did they just survey people? I think someone calling themselves conservative would be less likely to admit their messiness. It's also unlikely a liberal would admit to being OCD.

What would really make this special is if there were a way for users to submit/browse/download new tasks.

Any advice on how to write this stuff off? How much is a 1.2ghz celeron machine worth anyways?

@Phoshi: "and the GIMP Portable Background Window plug-in, which lets GIMP not be shit."

Here is the Mozilla wiki that talks about the UI:

The last time I moved I put a number on every box and made a list of the contents in a notebook. After I moved, I made a note of where every box was. This system was incredibly simple and still works. A spreadsheet would be better long-term though.

@RaffaeleKane: I think this is a bios thing. Most modern bios' let you set a wake-up time. Have a chron job run shortly after, and then set it back to hibernate when the task is done.

@aphexbr: Sure, you can double click install, and then get an error because you need package x, which in turn needs package y. Then, of course, that program, on that distro, with your sound and Ethernet configuration, causes error z...

@jimforcy: that is why you create a plethora of other uncommon cables that combine.

I've seen other hacks that involved getting power from the phone lines. I wonder if you could combine these hacks to use a powered hard drive, or something wireless. I don't think it is enough to power a drive, but maybe the power could charge a battery on a drive you only use for a small amount of time.

@MarcLister: That sounds clean. I'm gonna try that when I get home.

I hope my powerpc mac will work. Seems that less and less things are supporting it.
