IIRC the UNIMOG 1st gear tops out @ 0.1 MPH at 5,000 RPM. Pavement starts are in 3rd. An at-idle right angle traverse of railroad tracks at the edge of nowhere let us feel the transitions between climb 4", travel 2" and descend 4" four times.

Works even better if there’s a separate ignition switch. Starter motor movement first, then add spark.
