I just realized who would have made a near-perfect Jesse - Walton Goggins.

Considering that AMC Jesse has none of the inherent conviction that Vertigo Jesse does? I doubt it.
Because reasons. And Seth Rogen.
I mean, it would be nice if Jesse wasn't just guaranteed to win every fight though. Original Jesse gets his ass kicked in the barfight, but he shrugs it off because fuck 'em. AMC Jesse wins it because HIM TOUGH, is what that felt like. Undeserved strength backed by shaky will.
I'm trying very hard to look at this as an Elseworlds version of Preacher. And Jackie Earle Haley is always great in whatever he does, so that was the big benefit there.
Again, a HUGE worry for me. Then again, THIS Jesse wouldn't have a supernatural Duke with him, because this Jesse has very little of the unshakable conviction that comic Jesse does.
I disagree. That show was amazing in every way, and it deserved at least a second season. Loved loved loved that show.
Again, I don't fully agree with Bob's rant, but to discuss your points:
Man, not even a half-hearted bait. At least put some effort into it.
Please don't curse us with a Rogen-helmed The Boys show. I shudder to think of how they'd twist and damage the core of THAT gem.
I'm genuinely not sure of what you mean by "casual misogyny." Tulip was just about the strongest character out there, and even considering her later storyline, why would a low point for a character make that arc misogynistic?
I'd go as far as to say that if you're looking for nuance, you might be looking in the wrong place with Preacher. Good stories don't always have to have nuanced characters, and some nuanced characters can fit a certain description quite well. They're not mutually exclusive. Acting like maturity leads you away from…
Dude, that's kind of a major spoiler without being a major spoiler. Hell, I'm still calling that guy we know "The Cowboy." Hopefully I can stop doing that after next week.
Hellblazer, sure. JLI was a fucking masterpiece, but it had it's bad moments.
"…my Dad, who tends to record an entire series before watching, keeps excitedly asking me how Preacher is going (he introduced me to the comics)…"
I don't agree with Bob here, but this is what I'm talking about. The show is MORE complicated and convoluted because of the reworkings from the comic, not LESS complicated.
To be fair, I'm pretty sure Cassidy needs blood, not myoglobin. That red liquid we all see in meat packages ain't blood. And honestly, it really would just be simpler to get a live dog than to go into an abbatoir with a garbage bag and scoop up the errant blood lying around.
To be fair, another way that the comic seems to have separated from the show is that, in the comic, Genesis apparently "merges souls" with Jesse when they first come together. The Word is simply a manifestation of Genesis' power, not something deliberate.
See, this is one thing that bums me out. We get moments like these that are very much "Preacher" moments, that you would see in the comic, and these are what stand out. If the series had had the balls to just fully embrace that comic aspect from the beginning, we could be flipping tables because of how great this…
Christ, I just rambled way longer than anyone's going to read. If any of you get through that, my hat is off to you.
