That’s good. I think my MIL mostly just doesn’t eat. Need to save that time for criticizing fat people.

Right? It’s drilled into you from day one. If classified stuff gets on an unclassed system, it has to be wiped clean and all that. Is the difference that our stuff is marked? And the state dept has the info before it ever gets marked? I’m really trying to figure out how anyone thought this was ok.

I was a fucking history major and didn’t know the full extent of it until I was an adult and read about it in novels (that were researched and based on true events). You can almost see where people want to ignore it because jesus, you need brain bleach after that. But obviously we have to learn these things in order

OMG my mother in law is a little like that too. She’s been slowly giving up all protein and now she’s down to zero. And it’s not like she makes up for it with legumes, etc. Pretty much just bread products. Fat is the enemy!!!!

Mine too! In AP US History. I bet it’s not much different now. There are still people who are like, well, you know, the US did what it had to do, and it was *nothing* like a concentration camp, no sireebob. Mental note to take my kids to Manzanar.

It does seem like there’s a bit of that. I think it’s also combined with a misplaced attempt to “protect” children (who are really quite old enough to read about slavery). Like, ooh, that’s all just too harsh and terrible for them to learn! Same people who flipped about my kid reading Hunger Games. Except, you know,

I’ll take it. The idea of letting my veggies sit in some sad broth makes me angry and hostile.

I just get one of those tiny tupperware things and put some vinegar, olive oil, honey, salt and pepper and bring that with the salad. Or at home I use a container made for storing and pouring homemade dressing. It all started as a rebellion to the horrid dressing my mother in law buys— Kraft Russian or French

Exactly— it’s that kind of message that confuses people and makes them throw up their hands and go, well there’s all these studies saying different things, I just dunno! When they could be just eating a fucking salad instead of fried things.

Yea I just don’t think people are getting fat from that. Not when the burrito at their next meal has 1200 calories.

And the easiest dinner ever.

There was a lady in my office who was like 63 and only ate Lean Cuisines every day. She had zero color to her— she was gray.

The chain restaurants are terrible, that’s true. I’m usually only happy with a restaurant salad when it comes from a pretty healthy and/or upscale place. Fortunately for me I’m in LA so I’m spared the Applebee’s fried whateverthefuck salad with crisco dressing or whatever it is.

Or they’re trying to “save” their calories for junk and sweets. I used to be more like that and it’s not healthy, plus it’s sort of disordered.

We eat a ton of them. I’m making shrimp tacos tonight in fact, so I foresee an avocado in my future.

What I do when that happens is just shoot for Monday, maybe Tuesday. Let the chips fall where they may for the rest of the week. This week I bought two packaged salads from Trader Joe’s for today and tomorrow because that’s what I could manage. It’s still better than LC or eating out.

I make one similar, but I also “massage” the kale with olive oil and salt so it’s squished and soft. Lasts days in the fridge even with the oil and lemon.

Congrats, that’s great! I just got made fun of AGAIN for eating a kale salad in my office. For the record, it was a broccoli slaw and kale salad with chicken, sunflower seeds, cranberries, and a pretty fattening dressing. It’s a lot of calories and fat, but it’s my lunch and I need food! And I don’t want to eat Lean

The precedent is, eat a bunch of terrible salad with only lemon on it, then get sad and hungry and order pizza.

My mom always made all vegetables steamed with nothing on it. Like because it started out ultra healthy, it had to stay that way. So of course I hated all of them. Now we’re like, put some olive oil, salt, parmesan, etc. on those things! Same for salad. I figure I’m ahead of the game eating fresh vegetables (with
