Dear god, the way she speaks it’s like she try to seduce and strangle you at the same time.

Arguably the coolest male character in the Dune novels, though.
I'm not even sure it's the coolest name/state name when Johnny Utah exists.
It’s a good change, but a mealy-mouthed rationalization.
Exactly, Paul is trapped by his visions of the future. No matter what path he takes, people will kill and die in his name. Paul is not power hungry, he had power thrust upon him and the curse of knowing exactly what his actions and inactions will do in the future. He fights against his gifts until he eventually walks…
It works. Through Chani’s eyes, we see Paul for who he truly is: a man as power-hungry as the rest of them.
If you thought the movie was slowly paced, trust me, you don’t want to read the book...
Yes and no. The Bene Gesserit always intended to bring forth the Kwisatz Haderach, aka a male reverend Mother(err Father). It is not clear if they planned for that person to be a messiah or not. The seeding of religious prophecy among planets was a different project in the Sisterhood designed as a defense mechanism…
The Bene Gesserit breeding plan is not a “long con.” They fully intend to bring forth a messiah and in fact, are successful. They just can’t control him as they had planned. The only “con” might be that the breeding program and its goals are secret.
TLDR:
“But let’s backtrack to the aughts. There’s an alternate reality where Clive Owen accepted the role of James Bond when it was offered in 2007"
The best scene in Bourne Identity, for sure. His palpable sense of relief that it’s over is heartbreaking as he reaches for that one bit of human connection before signing off.
Feels like the beginning of the recent All Quiet on the Western Front when all the German schoolboys are excited about signing up for their big wartime adventure. Oops.
For BoB, the reason why it works and the Pacific doesn’t kind of goes back to the origin story.
How did HBO let this one go? Even though I don’t think he was in charge then, let’s go ahead and blame Zaslav for it.
“What are you...Paris?”
“You get the headaches?”
Croupier is much more Owen’s alley than James Bond. He would have actually made a miserable 007, with even more sadness and exhaustion than Craig, without the lightness that Craig could also bring to the part. But sadness and exhaustion were precisely what was needed for Children of Men.
Two Lew Archer movies right? Harper and The Drowning Pool.
