@Asmo: I'm not sure on the demographics for other kinds of alternative medicine practitioners, but the reason CAM is "shrugged off" by many people is because it's scientifically untenable and often risky. If anything, it's the presence of male figureheads in homeopathy and alternative medicine that have prevented it…

Somehow when a profession is female dominated, it's either "weak," "pointless" or prostitution. And massage therapy is magically all three! Something tells me if the field was male-dominated it would be seen as a secret healing art or something. God, I'm tired of society.
