Not really. Some people insist on one or the other, or any number of additional letters. I usually stick to LGBT because it’s less cumbersome, and everyone understands what you’re saying regardless. I don’t feel strongly about what acronym other people use.

That’s a hell of a false dichotomy there. There’s a whole lot that can be done to oppose the guy without using violence and intimidation to silence him. Boycotts, organizing competing (and better) events, insisting that he participate in a debate, etc.
