The AV Club switching to Kinja has done more to keep people from discussing Netflix shows then anything Netflix has done themselves.

Once again I feel sad for the (arguably inevitable) death of Fuller’s original pitch of Discovery as an anthology series with each season taking place in a different time period in the Federation’s history.
Almost every show might as well be a soft reboot since Star Trek has always been bad with continuity. Voyager shouldn’t exist because ships could already cross the entire galaxy in days in TOS.
It’s undeniable that the show is made by fans, and obviously it would be folly to try to replicate the snoozefest of early TNG, or the mostly static format of Berman-era Trek.
And I’m not saying the show as it now, is without merit, but it feels to me like the writers/producers are more interested in a comic book…
Yeah, this season is way better then TNG season 1
I don’t think so. The criticism here is less “this isn’t the Trek I remember!” And more “Why is this tv show so poorly executed?”
For me, I do enjoy this series a lot, but I don’t think of it as Star Trek. As Zack says, Star Trek is about hope. It’s a utopian tale made by progressive hippies. That is a necessary requirement for me. You can bend that— Deep Space Nine certainly did, and it’s my favorite series. But that show still cared— a LOT,…
Criticizing the show for poorly fitting into its franchise is very much a valid criticism. The problem with Discovery isn’t simply that it’s doing something new or different, but that it’s doing so at the expensive of the series that it is very much supposed to be a part of. There’s the concept for a work to best…
Curb is good, but Kinja is bad
Actually, Tyler-as-Voq would make a certain amount of sense - and assuming there’s ANY respect for canon, there’s an easy way to make it happen.
I have to say L’Rell fought pretty disappointingly for a Klingon.
Quark: I want you to try something for me. Take a sip of this.
This episode maybe dialed in my frustrations with the show more than any other, for two reasons,
Everything about the spore drive and the portrayal of the Klingons, from their ships to their look, is just terrible. This show is taxing to watch as a Star Trek fan. It sure feels like the people who are making it really, really hate Star Trek and its philosophy.
I got a fight scene where somebody got cold-clocked with an awkward, clasped, double fist swing punch! It took 5 episodes, but Trek is back, baby!
Only 21 posts. The third episode of the last season with new players has 244.
I personally love Gina, and Chelsea Peretti is on the show because she is in an incredible writer and comedienne. Get your head out of your ass.
Sorry to be that guy, but per the Stray Observations, the Ayatollah isn’t the shah. Totally different title.
And how!
I found It Follows to be a respite from modern, plasticized horror movies, even though it seemed, from the early marketing it might just be another jaded entry in film horror. Instead I found the film a very stripped-down, mysterious and spare experience. The production of the film hits an eerie tone right away,…
