I’m looking at the gif, and the only major difference I can see is that the home computer mushes all of his teeth into an indistinct off-white blur while the expensive vfx makes his teeth look like teeth. I don’t see anything off in the mustache area at all, no matter how hard I look for…

In English they were originally used interchangeably, though post-Norman Conquest ð started to fall off, becoming more restricted in use and eventually dying off much earlier than þ. Icelandic uses them for different sounds, however.
