I think it depends a lot on what age it hits you. When I was first exposed to his movies in seventh grade with Mallrats, it seemed like a natural progression from Adam Sandler-type stuff to more dialogue-driven comedy, but with references I understood. I still find it fun, though not nearly to the same extent.
