Amazing. I don’t understand why people are so against this kind of health care system? The average Brit doesn’t pay much more in taxes than the average American.

My father is resident in the UK, and has the absolutely bat-shit insane number of prescriptions that any typical older person does. He doesn’t have any sort of medical insurance (virtually no-one in the UK does, unless it’s essentially a freebie with work).

I had a similar experience when I studied abroad in Ireland. I got a really bad sinus infection, and the private insurance I had there required that I pay for everything upfront and be reimbursed in full after submitting a claim. The total, unsubsidized cost of a doctor’s visit, strong antibiotics, nasal spray, and…

Wait, what? It gets rid of the individual mandate but maintains the requirement to cover patients with pre-existing conditions? Those provisions are linked - you need the young healthy individuals in the insurance market, who pay premiums but are unlikely to use expensive services, to offset the costs of covering…
