As a sailor who has done plenty of off shore sailing, I can agree with what you said, you get by and once you get port and can sleep, it is not unusual for me to sleep 12 hours or more.

Mazda 3 with Skyactiv engine. Mine with 6 speed manual gets 30 MPGS around town and on a drive from Portland to LA averaged 47 MPG doing 70+ and climbing mountain passes along the way.
