Just did a move myself. What we did for labeling was we bought big labels from any place you can get office supplies. Then we went and got a whole bunch of different colored electric tape from the hardware store. (Those packing tapes with the room labels on them don't work when you don't have those exact rooms.)

For labelling boxes by room, I just bought a package of several hundred neon price sticker dots. Picked a color code for each room, and stuck a sticker on each side of the box. Super easy and fast. In addition, I used a sharpie on boxes where I needed to know the exact contents.

@kalachakraa: Yeah, my fiance and I are about to move, and I'm buying plastic storage bins for packing instead of cardboard boxes. We're only moving about 15 miles, and from an apartment to a condo, so putting the bins on a skid wouldn't work for us, but I definitely am with you on packing in reusable plastic bins

I really like [v3.planningwiz.com] for furniture planning (the taking measurements step of the guide). All you need is a digital image of the floorplan(the higher res the better) with at least a couple rooms indicating size of the room (so you can get the scale right later) and the measurements of your furniture.
