That's an interesting idea, actually... I have long tailored my own jeans by sewing two small darts, one on either side of the back belt loop, and custom fitting the waistband that way. I have to cut through the waist band, but it gives me a perfect, gap- free fit every time.

15 years ago, our daughters elementary school teachers were use using this system; the idea is simple and very easily communicated when used in the classroom. The sticks shown in the photo here represent the use of the system in a school setting.
