You are wrong. Yahoo is failing because it failed to adapt and innovate. That is a failure of leadership. It is poor decisions that helped drive the company into the ground.

When larger companies acquire small startups, you really have to be committed to making it work. Many times, the acquisition has a terrible code-base and the talent is limited to just a few key people that were more interested in cashing in than getting assimilated in to the larger company. So I get the challenges.

To some degree that’s true but look at the numbers. Yahoo spent roughly $2.5 billion on 53 companies, and out of that $1 billion was on tumblr. That means $1.5 billion was spent on recruiting, which is a little less than $30 million per company. Did it pay off in any way at all? Fucking no.
