Past WAR is no guarantee of future WAR. The Rays are in no position to be paying for a player who is entering his post-peak years. They have to be more ruthless than that to beat Yankees/Red Sox. The Rays have proven to be pretty smart about these things I would give them the benefit of the doubt.
