The police are not neutral. They support Trump.
Every single time there’s an instance of police brutality I always get grief from the commentariat here about my opinion that the police do not exist to protect people. They exist to protect the status quo, and any attempt to provide any resistance or oversight on what they view as “their” domain will result in…
The reactionary right has successfully co-opted the left’s language and conception of justice and weaponized them against us. Dark days.
So even if I agreed with the assaulting an officer being a hate crime (and thought that whether the officer was attacked for being one or if he was assaulted for performing his duty shouldn’t be considered), I fail to see how taking an action that doean’t result in the officer being injured or attempting to injure…
You can be charged with resisting arrest without actually being in the process of being arrested, so basically refusing to answer a question will get you charged with it.
Making America great again, one civil rights violation at a time.
Resisting arrest is basically anything they try to arrest you for isn’t declared charges until way after you’re in custody for them to think of one and then wasting hours to get the charges dropped and losing hours or days in jail from your job because of it.
Except that they already were protected. They don’t need this. It was always illegal to kill or even hit a police officer. This is definitely a way to pile it on, not a necessary protection.
My favorite part is how people get arrested for resisting arrest and nothing else. How can you be resisting arrest if you weren’t being arrested in the first place? Or is there some sort of Minority Report situation going on where the police are like, “Well we were going to let him go, but then we got a report that he…
You don’t even need to do anything. They can literally just make it up and say you did resist arrest. Its the most BS charge in the book. My personal favorite is when they charge someone for resisting arrest but nothing else. Like, why the fuck were you trying to arrest them in the first place again?
You know what’s a hate crime? Over-cooking bacon.
Truth be told, this is why I opposed hate crime laws in the first place. There was no way that the privileged would not subvert them for their own benefit. “The tools of the master will never dismantle the master’s house.” -Audre Lorde
You know what, I think we should just go all the way with this logic. Can we make tax evasion a hate crime? Insider trading? Bribery? Kickbacks?
34-year-old man in New Orleans was reportedly the first to be charged with a felony hate crime in the state after he damaged property and yelled slurs at cops.
I’m just waiting for the cops to start demanding people state their religion and use any refusal to do so to be grounds for arrest.
was this law proposed by someone named marshall?
Nothing fascist about that. Nope, not at all.
What could go wrong?
